| The Association was formed in 1960 as an organisation to represent veterinarians and aligned professionals in the field of veterinary public health. This is a very wide field and covers all aspects of animal disease, production and enterprise which has any interaction with the human population.
It covers specific issues such as residues associated with pharmaceuticals, animal welfare, zoonoses, genetically modified food and feeds, environmental impact of farming, meat hygiene, food safety, as well as all aspects of the production of all foods of animal origin including seafood, mollusc farming and dairy production amongst many other issues.
It is through the lobbying role of the Association that it is able to influence Government policy and the formation of consumer protection focused advice and guidance. The VPHA is committed to the protection of the consumer, the environment and to the promotion of animal welfare. |
